Spring Sailing Classes

Learn to Sail with TWSA

Whether you're stepping aboard for the first time or looking to build your confidence on the water, Tacoma Women's Sailing Association offers a welcoming, supportive environment to learn and grow as a sailor.

What to Expect

Students are matched with volunteer instructors and crew members of similar experience aboard privately owned sailboats. Classes combine hands-on instruction with practical on-the-water experience in a fun, encouraging atmosphere.

Our curriculum is based on widely recognized sailing practices and is designed to help participants develop skills, confidence, and a love of sailing.

Class Schedule

Spring sailing classes are typically offered each year and include:

• An introductory classroom session
• Several weeks of evening on-the-water instruction
• Additional sailing opportunities when schedules and weather allow

Specific dates are announced each season.

Locations

Volunteer skippers generously provide their boats, which are moored at marinas throughout the South Sound.

Students are assigned to boats based on experience level and location whenever possible.

Experience Levels

Beginning Sailors

• Little or no sailing experience

Returning & Intermediate Sailors

• Previous sailing experience with a desire to expand skills and confidence

Participant Requirements

Participants should:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Provide their own U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD)
• Wear appropriate weather-ready clothing and non-marking shoes
• Be able to move safely aboard a sailboat

Registration & Fees

Registration opens each spring and space is limited.

Course fees and membership dues are reviewed annually and may change from year to year. Current pricing and registration information will be posted when registration opens.

If classes reach capacity, a waitlist may be available.

This version is much easier to maintain. Each year you'll only need to update the registration dates, class dates, and current fees instead of rewriting the entire page. It also feels more like a welcoming overview than a one-year announcement.
